Gant task force could address SD voting sites

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant says he's forming a task force to address possible changes to a state plan on spending federal money aimed at improving access to voting.
The move comes after the U.S. Election Assistance Commission responded to Gant's request for an advisory opinion on whether the money could be used to set up satellite absentee voting offices on three American Indian reservations.
A commission official says it can't issue such an opinion because there aren't enough seated commissioners to form a quorum. But Grants Management Director Monica Evans also tells Gant that the state plan for spending the money would need to be revised and federally approved for any proposed change.
Gant says the task force might address several possible changes.
