Evaluation: Rapid City man competent to stand trial for Walmart stabbing death

Posted:

The man who allegedly stabbed and killed his ex-girlfriend, Morgan Meyers, in the Rapid City Walmart parking lot in April 2012 does not have any competency issues.

The results of 31-year-old Michael Young's psychological evaluation show he is competent to stand trial.

Attorneys for both the defense and state say they need about 30 more days to go through the report for the purpose of plea negotiations.

Young is also charged with fetal homicide because Meyers was pregnant.  In addition, he is charged with a violating a protection order and a stalking.

He will be back in court in a month.
