A tire thief took Sheridan Police on a high speed chase before getting away.
Police say a man loaded close to $800 worth of tires Friday morning from an outside display at Plains Tire onto his vehicle, a gold Tahoe or Suburban, and left without paying.
After police located the man at Tire-Rama, he was pursued southbound on Coffeen Avenue before going north on Interstate 90. He then got off at the Fifth Street exit and headed back into town.
Police called off the pursuit due to safety concerns, but have established his identity.
After stealing the tires, he tried to get other tire businesses to install them on his car.
"The tires were stolen from Plains, but he went to several of the other local tire businesses in town, including Peerless, Tire-Rama, Steve's Trucking, Firestone," said Detective Lieutenant Chris Dahmke.
Police are still investigating. The man could face misdemeanor theft, reckless driving, and other traffic infraction charges.
