Car and pedestrian accidents in Rapid City are down this summer from last summer thanks in part to the pedestrian safety campaign.
From June 10th through September 11th, there were eight car/pedestrian accidents, and last year during that time period there were 14.
During the campaign, officers issued 140 tickets for failure to yield to pedestrians. Overall, Captain Dan Rud says it has worked.
"I see more drivers yielding to pedestrians. I see more pedestrians paying attention to traffic to make sure it's safe to cross before they do cross, but I think we still have some more work to do," said Captain Rud.
The crosswalk campaign will stop at the end of the month, but Captain Rud says they will continue to focus on pedestrian safety.
