Bismarck couple leads Rapid City police on high-speed chase

Posted:

A Bismarck, North Dakota couple were arrested Thursday night after a high-speed chase in North Rapid City.

According to police spokesperson Tarah Heupel, around 12:40 p.m., an officer spotted a Ford Mustang speeding near the intersection of Maple and Brentwood. The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over.

The suspect led police on a pursuit, heading west on Surfwood, north on Maple, east on Disk Drive around the Rushmore Mall, and onto North Haines. The suspect ignored traffic signals and stop signs during the pursuit, and reached an estimated speed of 90 mph heading north on Haines.

Due to high speeds and traffic, the officer terminated the pursuit.

Around 9 p.m., an officer located the suspect vehicle at a gas station at 3275 Campbell. Driver Dennis Volk, 35 of Bismarck, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and false personation. Passenger Amy Steele, 33 of Bismarck, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The investigation into these incidents is continuing.
