At the School of Mines roughly $8 million a year goes into research. Now a panel is visiting the school to review its research strategy.
A group of eight experts is interviewing research faculty and touring facilities. Then they'll report their feedback and recommendations to School of Mines President Heather Wilson.
Wilson said it's important to get advice about how best to handle research in the long term.
"What is the research we want to do? How do we position ourselves to do that research? What kinds of facilities we need for it? What kinds of people we need to be hiring? So this development of the strategy will help us focus our efforts," said Wilson.
The panel is made up of people from other institutions and private and government sectors throughout the country.
