Who said traveling back in time was impossible? Students K-5 in Newcastle, Wyoming had that opportunity on Thursday.
The sounds of cannons, gunfire and bugles rang out throughout the day as students learned about the Civil War. The two-day event known as Cavalry Days is open to the general public Thursday and Friday, and welcomes anyone hungry for some history.
Those who attend can enjoy re-enactors dressed in Civil War clothing, hands on activities and cannon fire, which seems to be a fan favorite.
"I like the cannons," said 2nd grader Kaleb Huber.
"This gives us an opportunity to show kids a little bit about history that's why they call it living history because they can see it first hand and it gives them inspiration to maybe study more," said event organizer, Jim Robinson.
The cannons were inspected before the event by the Newcastle Police Department.
