A Rapid City man died as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Monday, Aug. 26 at the intersection of U.S. Highway 16B and Black Hills Boulevard.
Charles Kendall Gerlach, 95, died on Sept. 7 from injuries suffered during the crash two weeks ago. His wife, Audrey Gerlach, 94, a passenger in the crash, died shortly after the crash on the way to the hospital.
The vehicle was eastbound in the passing lane on Highway 16B. Charles Gerlach failed to use the left-turn lane as he attempted to make a turn onto Black Hills Boulevard. The vehicle entered the path of westbound traffic and was struck by a 2008 Ford Econoline van driven by Kenneth Edwin Leathers, 31, of Rapid City.
Another passenger in the Chevrolet driven by Gerlach, Eugene Francis Lund, 98, of Rapid City, received life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a Rapid City hospital.
All occupants were wearing seatbelts.
Leathers received serious
injuries, as did a passenger, Nola Charging Bear, 29, of Rapid City. They were
