SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Republican state Sen. Tim Rave of Baltic has been elected the new majority leader of the South Dakota Senate.

The Argus Leader reports that Senate Republicans on Saturday elected Rave to be majority leader. Rave replaces Sen. Russell Olson of Wentworth, who has resigned from the Legislature to take a new job.

Rave previously was speaker of the House before being elected to the Senate. He also was chairman of the South Dakota Republican Party for two years.

Republican Sen. Dan Lederman of Dakota Dunes will be assistant majority leader in the Senate.
