Hundreds with special needs get Black Hills outdoor adventure

Posted:

People with special needs had the chance to enjoy everything the Black Hills had to offer Wednesday.

Between 200 and 300 special guests had the chance to enjoy fishing, live reptiles, horseback riding, face painting and more, as part of the 9th Annual Experience the Outdoors Day.

And Horsethief Campground near Mount Rushmore, makes the experience more enjoyable for everyone, because of its handicapped accessibility. This includes sidewalks, boardwalks, ramps, and trails.

Organizers say the guests are not the only ones having fun.

"Oh it is just a wonderful event. Just to see the smiles we are probably having to just as much fun if not more than them," says Ty Gerbracht, Operations Manager for Forest Recreation Management, one of the main sponsors of the event.

"Oh it's awesome, we went horseback riding and fishing," says participant Penny Lynn.

There was also a luncheon with live cowboy music.
