Man faces murder charge in SD reservation stabbing

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ A 29-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal stabbing Saturday on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
An FBI affidavit says Jared Slader is accused of stabbing Lester Peneaux with a 3- or 4-inch knife outside the Golden Rule Bar in Eagle Butte after an argument.
The Argus Leader reports that Peneaux died during surgery at a hospital in Eagle Butte about five hours later. Slader was taken to the same hospital for a jaw injury.
Investigators say Slader told them he was defending himself after being assaulted by four or five people while sitting in a vehicle and talking to someone.
Slader faces up to life in prison if convicted.
