After Friday's hailstorm, Rapid City has had two major hailstorms this summer. The first one was in July but insurance experts say the latest storm was definitely worse.
There was baseball sized hail that caused a lot of damage to cars and houses. Local insurance agent Gene Hufford said this is the largest hailstorm he's seen in his career. He also said since his company insures homes, cars, and businesses, he's going to be very busy.
"Our commercial claims are going to be quite rather extensive also. Right now I'm estimating it's going to be in the multiple of millions of dollars worth of claims just out of my agency alone," said Hufford.
Body shops are still working on cars from the July storm. One body shop owner says his crews are booked several weeks out.
"So this just adds to the work load and extends the amount of time we'll be doing repairs," said Bennett Clark, owner of PDR Pros.
Clark estimates he'll be working on hail damaged cars through the winter.
