Rapid City woman pleads guilty to child abuse

A Rapid City woman accused of aggravated child abuse has changed her plea to guilty.

38-year-old Angelita Elk Boy told Seventh Circuit Judge Craig Pfeifle that she was drunk when she left her 16 month old child alone in their apartment back in March. The stove was turned on And the apartment caught fire. Fire crews were able to rescue the toddler.

Her attorney said Elk Boy was too drunk at the time to remember all of the details. Along with Tuesday's plea to aggravated child abuse, Elk Boy pled guilty to a misdemeanor and felony DUI charge.

She will be sentenced on October 3, and she faces up to 20 years in prison.
