Tips from public lead Rapid City police to casino robbery suspect

Rapid City detectives have made an arrest in the Rushmore Casino robbery case.

Thanks to several tips from the public, 33-year-old Tavis Walker was identified.  Police located him at the Avanti Motel in North Rapid City. He was arrested and charged with first degree robbery.

Walker is suspected of entering the Rushmore Casino on Mount Rushmore Road and brandishing a knife. He demanded money from the clerk, and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Detectives have also identified two suspects in a July 24 robbery at the Circle S gas station on Fairmont Boulevard.  One of them broke the handle off the  plunger and assaulted the clerk because he was angry that his credit card was declined.

Both are in custody in Nebraska on unrelated charges.
