Mobile app development lab opens its doors at SDSM&T

It's something more than half of all Americans use on a daily basis ... smart phones, and the School of Mines is looking to stay on the cutting edge of handheld technology with its new mobile computing lab.

The new program is open to juniors and seniors looking to create the next big thing.

Citing the small number of schools offering training in mobile computing, grad student Ross Hoyer thinks the new lab will give mines students a leg up on the competition, "Every class we take here gets us ready for a industry but none of them really hit the mobile development which is where a lot of industry is going."

Course curriculum developer Brian Butterfield from the Mitchell based company Innovative Solutions added, "It's good to be in computer science at the school of mines and actually get exposed to where the industry going at the point in time that the industry is going there."

The mobile app market generates almost four times more revenue than that of Google, Apple, Microsoft and Intel each year.
