Rapid City Police Department
The Rapid City Police Department will ramp up its patrol presence this weekend, with extra officers dedicated to DUI enforcement. Officers will be working to identify and apprehend impaired drivers, with increased enforcement Saturday evening.
The saturation is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s campaign to curb drunk driving, called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” The nationwide campaign runs August 16 – Sept. 2.
Those planning to celebrate the long weekend are encouraged to think before they drink. Plan ahead and decide on a safe way home before going out. Designate a sober driver, or use a taxi service to get home safely and avoid putting others at risk.
Since the beginning of the year, Rapid City police have arrested 655 people for driving under the influence. In 2012, 878 people were arrested for the same offense.
