SD Republican political activist found guilty

MADISON, S.D. (AP) _ A conservative political activist will not serve jail time after being convicted of breaking South Dakota election law.
Jurors in Madison deliberated just over an hour Thursday before finding Daniel Willard guilty on four misdemeanor counts.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says Willard was sentenced to 30 days in jail for each count, but the time was suspended.
Willard was accused of not registering a group behind automated political calls last fall criticizing GOP leaders who he and another man thought didn't support veterans.
Prosecutors argued that Willard used his personal credit card to buy the cellphone that was used to make the robo-calls.
Willard's defense argued that he was targeted for political reasons and there wasn't enough evidence.
