Keeping cool in August heat

With the summer heat, we're all searching for ways to cool off.

Some are jumping for joy at the chance to squeeze out a few extra days of summer weather, while others try to find the nearest shady spot to relax.

Many kids took to the fountains at Main Street Square in Rapid City to cool off and have a little bit of fun in the process

Families are also trying to beat the heat in Sheridan.

With the public pool closed now that school is back in session, one of the few alternatives for parents like Becca Palm, is to take her two young boys and their dog to Big Goose Creek, which cuts through Kendrick Park.

"Goose Creek through Kendrick is one of the favorite spots for the kids to go cool off during the day and we have it to ourselves today because everyone's in school," said Palm.

Another popular cool off spot will close soon.  Kendrick Park's ice cream stand shut down for the season after Labor Day.
