Air conditioners working overtime

The August heat wave means KOTA Territory homeowners are running their air conditioners non-stop.

That means that businesses like Total Comfort Heating and Air Conditioning in Sheridan are sending out a lot of crews to repair or replace A-C units.

Total Comfort owner Jason Reilly suggests homeowners start their system's cooling cycle early, have a professional check the unit twice a year, and keep all doors, windows, and curtains closed while it's running, otherwise several problems could arise.

"We're going to see fans failing, capacitors inside starting to fail, either compressors or indoor evaporator coils starting to freeze due to dirty outdoor condensers or dirty filters," said Reilly.

Reilly says minor air conditioner repairs can cost more than $200, and replacing an entire unit is usually at least $1,400.
