Fly-fishing, rock climbing, and archery were all part of a fun–in–the–sun day for women.
The Outdoor Campus West held a "Women's Try It Day," to encourage women to do some outdoor activities.
Women paddled in canoes and kayaks, learned about gun safety, and casting a fly-fishing line, all with hands–on teachers showing them how it's done. Programs at The Outdoor Campus West aim to provide outdoor educational experiences. "We're hoping that people get out and enjoy the outdoors more, a lot of people stay inside too much and it's healthy to be outside," said Abe Blumenthal, an intern.
Andrea Kross spend the day bouncing from one activity to another. "Hanging out with the ladies and no one else that knows exactly what they're doing," Kross laughed.
September, The South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks Division of Wildlife will sponsor "Becoming an Outdoors Woman," which is a three day event with workshops that focus on learning outdoor skills.
