People packed Main Street in Deadwood Friday night for Kool Deadwood Nites. Parking, no doubt, was a challenge. Mayor Chuck Turbiville says Kool Deadwood Nites continues to grow, and changes may be made to accommodate the crowd of more than 15,000 people.
Turbiville says as of Thursday, 400 cars were registered. He expects between 500 and 600 registrations by Sunday, and approximately 1,000 cars total (including those that aren't registered).
In the past, the city has bussed people from other areas to "free up" parking, but Turbiville says they found that people wanted to be closer to the city. The mayor says they have some parking plans in mind for the future. "There's a couple stops down by the football field were we can possibly find more parking. There's a couple of private landowners that we're thinking about trying to work with and maybe busing to them," said Turbiville.
If early registrations are any indication, Turbiville says this year will be larger than last.
