SD Governor's mansion is sold

Posted:

A piece of South Dakota history was sold on Thursday afternoon. The buyer of the old Governor's mansion wishes to remain anonymous and also does not want to reveal the price that was paid. When the deal is closed within thirty days, it will be public record.

The mansion, now located in Rapid Valley, was home to 16 past governors and their families. The entire property, including more than 14 acres, was foreclosed and is being sold by the current owner.

Bidding started Thursday morning at $375,000. By early afternoon Thursday, the bidding had stalled at $410,000.

In 2003, plans for a new state residence in Pierre caused the mansion to close.  Eventually, this home was saved and relocated to where it stands today.  It has been fully remodeled and updated.  It has six bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
