"Godless" billboards go up in Rapid City and Spearfish

Billboards that some might call "Godless" are popping up in South Dakota. They read, "don't believe in God? Join the club."

The controversial billboards are in several different cities in the state. A digital message is now in Rapid City on Omaha Street, and there is one in Spearfish on I–90. They are sponsored by the South Dakota Coalition of Reason, a group of seven atheist and agnostic groups in the state.

Organizers of the campaign say it is a way to reach out to humanists, atheists and agnostics.

But some people don't like them.  "I think it's absolutely horrible and it's just something that should not be up there at all," said Elaine Lopez, of Rapid City.

The billboards were funded by the United Coalition of Reason and an anonymous South Dakota donor. They will remain through September 15.
