Other crashes of Ellsworth B-1B bombers

An Ellsworth B-1B crashed on the same bombing range in September 1997 (Sept. 19, 1997.)  The four crew members aboard were killed.  The cause of the accident was attributed to a combat maneuver that went awry causing the plane to strike the ground.

On November 17, 1988 a B1-B crashed short of the runway at Ellsworth in an early winter storm, scattering debris over a large area.  The crew ejected.

And on December 12, 2001, an EAFB B-1B crashed into the Indian Ocean near the air base on the island of Diego Garcia.  The crew was rescued.
