Despite possible cuts to troop number across the military due to the sequester, the South Dakota National Guard needs new recruits.
When it comes to recruiting, South Dakota usually ranks as one of the top states in the country. But recently numbers have dropped. Recruiters for the South Dakota National Guard say they have 60 open positions.
They also say because of the uncertainty with Defense Department cuts, people may not realize they have openings.
"In the State of South Dakota for the National Guard, we're searching for numbers we want qualified people in the guard and we are out there looking for them," said Lyn Waldie, a recruiter for the South Dakota National Guard.
There are currently 463,700 members of the Army and Air National Guard, and 4,300 are from South Dakota.
