Dr. Sid Goss, professor emeritus at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSM&T), has been named interim dean of the University Center-Rapid City.
“With the approaching school year, we needed someone who could hit the ground running,” said Dr. Kay Schallenkamp. “Dr. Goss will be able to ensure UC-RC operations will be smooth. Students shouldn’t see any noticeable differences from past practices.”
The former dean, Craig Johnson was suspended earlier this month. School leaders haven't said why only that it was because of a personal issue.
Johnson was named dean in October 2011. Before that he was a vice president at Jefferson Community College in Watertown, N.Y.
Goss has a long history in Rapid City and higher education.
“Having worked in some capacity with all six South Dakota institutions of higher learning, and with the Board of Regents, I am ready to hit the ground running,” Goss said, adding that he is looking forward to meeting new students and greeting returning students as the semester begins. ”I’m excited to work with the strong, committed student body at the University Center and the great staff already on board in Rapid City.”
