Hot Springs hosts traveling memorial

It may be a traveling tribute, but its impact stays forever.

Through Sunday, Hot Springs is hosting the American Veterans Traveling Tribute, a replica 80 percent the size of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC.

While the tribute pays respect to fallen soldiers, it also features tributes to other emergency personnel.

Organizers say the event is free and a way to honor both heroes and the impact veterans have had on Hot Springs.

"This is a free event. There's no cost to anyone for anything. This is for our veterans of our country. And for the citizens here in hot springs. And a way to showcase to our tourists and the people that are visiting here, what we're all about," said event organizer Donald L. Ackerman.

"Well we learned about this in school, but when I see how many people are actually in it, it kind of makes me surprised that this many people died," said Nebraska native Samantha Weeder.

On Sunday, Hot Springs will host the freedom ride and a parade to honor veterans.
