More than 3 million Catholics joined together on the beaches of Brazil. They came together for World Youth Day, to visit with Pope Francis.
A group of 37 people, 3 priests and 34 students, from the Black Hills traveled to Rio De Janeiro to not only see the Pope but to do mission work as well.
The group made a pilgrimage across Brazil volunteering in parishes and celebrating their united faiths. The students and priests said the trip was both physically and mentally taxing, but seeing and getting to know the pope was what made all the struggles worth their while.
Father Nathan Sparks said, "What struck me was his vulnerability, humility and sincerity, what you see is what you get."
Cecilia Lang, a World Youth Day participant said, "It was really incredible just seeing him drive by and going wow that's the successor of peter."
World Youth Day is held every three years, and the 2016 World Youth Day will be held in Krakow, Poland.
