The Sturgis Rally is right around the corner and law enforcement will be patrolling the area. Last year during the Rally there were 251 arrests for driving under the influence and 185 misdemeanor drug arrests.
Highway patrol investigated about 100 crashes. In the past, highway patrol officers have done special trainings before the rally if certain problems were anticipated, like riots. But this year they are not doing that.
Captain Kevin Karley of Highway Patrol says officers work hard to control the high amounts of traffic.
"We want to be visible. We want people to know we're out there. We are addressing traffic violations. We are addressing DUI drivers, and we're doing the best we can to make the rally safe for everyone," said Captain Karley.
The 73rd Annual Sturgis Rally will officially start August 5th and run through the 11th.
