SD Lottery officials warn of Mega Millions scam

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Lottery officials are warning players not to be taken in by a scam that promises them winnings from a second-chance Mega Millions drawing.

The Lottery has been notified by more than a dozen lotto or scratch-ticket winners who have received telephone calls from someone claiming to be from the South Dakota Dakota Lottery. The caller advised the players that their prizes made them eligible for a second-chance drawing in the Mega Millions game and that lottery officials would deliver a $5 million prize to them.

State Lottery Director Norm Lingle says people who receive such calls should not provide callers with personal information, including credit card and bank account numbers. He says anyone receiving such a call should contact the Lottery or a law enforcement agency.
