A school district in KOTA territory has the biggest elementary school in South Dakota and there's barely any room for more students.
Meade School Board members toured the at capacity schools. They looked at the closed down Stagebarn Elementary school and property next to the school. They also looked at the crowded Piedmont Valley Elementary School, and Sturgis Elementary School.
Bob Burns, President of the Meade School Board, says at 745 students, Sturgis Elementary is the largest elementary school in the state and will be at capacity by next year.
"I think percentage wise we've experienced a higher rate of growth than Rapid City has and our schools were already getting to be at the upper limits of what they could hold. So we're really getting in a pinch now," said Burns.
Burns said it's important to talk to legislators and let them know the school district is in need of funding. Burns said they would be building if they had the funds.
