Airmen and Yellow Bike Program team up in Rapid City

Airmen are used to working on planes, but Saturday, they worked on bicycles.

About 10 airmen from Ellsworth Air Force Base worked at the Yellow Bike Program Saturday afternoon.

The airmen donated around 45 bikes to the program that helps give bicycles to those who can't afford to buy one, but it's not totally free. Those who want bikes have to earn them by volunteering time.

Master Sergeant Jennifer Dreier says airmen collected bikes around the base and they fixed up around 10 to bring back with them.

This is to start a 'Borrow a Bike' program at the base to give wheels to new arrivals that don't have vehicles, or anyone who just wants to take a bike ride.

Dreier says the program was started in honor of an airmen who was injured while mountain biking.
