Train traffic resumes after 37 cars derail in southwest SD

Posted:

Train traffic has resumed on two westbound tracks near Dewey, South Dakota after 37 empty coal train cars derailed early Monday morning.

A spokesperson for Burlington Northern Santa Fe says crews are still working to clear the area and make repairs to the track.

The cause of the derailment is still under investigation. But area residents say a storm Sunday likely washed out the tracks.

The train was headed to Wyoming from Nebraska.
