Twenty bikers set off on an adventure ride Tuesday morning from Rockerville. For the next three days and 850 miles, their motorcycle tires won't touch the pavement. The inaugural Dakota Adventure Loop Ride for bikers on off-road motorcycles began Tuesday and ends Friday.
The riders will take only back roads and travel to the Nebraska border and then up to North Dakota and back. The ride took more than a year for Bill Hearne to plan. He says seeing the area on a road less traveled is really something special. "I've learned a lot about South Dakota," Hearne said. "Beautiful areas that no one knew existed or I didn't know existed, so you can see South Dakota in a whole different way than typical people, He continued.
Hearne says there are only seven rides like this in the country. Once they get back from the ride he is going to post the GPS coordinates to dakotaadventureloop.com so others can enjoy the ride too.
