School is out and children are restless. But there's a few added incentives for kids to drop the video games and lace-up the sneakers.
Rapid City resident Karen Gilson and her daughter Katrina have been walking a mile lap around Rapid City's Robbinsdale Park each and every day this summer.
While the exercise routine has health related benefits, the mother-daughter duo is always enjoying more bonding time.
And, that's something Nicole Craig of the Rapid City YMCA says should encourage more parents to take similar exercising routines.
"So, why not just keep that habit and make it a part of your daily lifestyle, include some activity in just about anything. And that could be a walk after lunch. Or a walk after dinner. If both parents are working then it's an added bonus to have both some added family time."
Craig says families should also keep an exercise log - so that kids can feel some accomplishment when they start racking up the miles that they've walked.
