Firefighters attack blaze near New Underwood

A grass fire near New Underwood Saturday afternoon sparked responses from five different fire departments.
The blaze scorched 144 acres and required assistance from New Underwood, Box Elder, Rapid Valley, Folsom, and Wall volunteer fire departments.

Pennington County Fire Administrator Denny Gorton says machinery is most likely the cause of the fire.

No structural damage or injuries were reported but 12 bales of hay were destroyed.
It took a couple of hours for firefighters to contain it.

Gorton says it may look green in the hills but the fire Saturday burned like it was the month of August.  He says this could be a sign of yet another busy fire season.
