Rapid City's bravest and finest have been going at it all week long in a friendly competition.
But the 8th Annual Guns N Hoses Blood Drive has come to an end.
The Rapid City Police Department took home the trophy with 353 total donors recruited, 19 more than the Fire Departments 334.
Organizers say it's less about competition, and more about getting as many people to donate as possible so they can get their blood supply.
"There's no way to manufacture blood," said Rapid City Lt. Tom Senesac. "The only way for people to get it is to donate it. It goes very fast, I say 30 to 40 days all this blood will be gone."
For each person who donates, up to three lives are saved.
According to Angel Pillet of the United Blood Services, there were a total of 687 donors this week.
The Fire Department had won the last two years. Both departments have now one four times each.
