Police investigating storage unit burglaries in Rapid City

The Rapid City Police Department is investigating a rash of storage unit burglaries at facilities across town. Recently, detectives have seen an influx of cases involving storage units, where suspects cut padlocks on the units to steal any valuables inside.

From January 1 - June 17 of this year, police have investigated 45 cases of storage unit burglaries. Thieves take any items of value, ranging from jewelry and electronics to tools and appliances. Recently, police located various items they believe to be stolen from storage units. Detectives are working to locate the owners, and are asking the public for help.

Police are asking people to check on any property they have in storage units, and if anything has been stolen, report it to police immediately. They also suggest to contact management of the storage unit to learn what security precautions may be taking. Police also suggest to write down serial numbers of any valuable property in the unit, and take digital photos of important items.
