Car hits train in Sheridan

A vehicle was struck by a moving train Monday morning in Sheridan.

Police say a 2002 Subaru Outback went right through the activated gate on Fifth Street and hit the train's second unit around 6:30 am.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway workers were busy fixing the gate and a switch that was damaged in the crash for the rest of the morning.

The car was towed off the tracks around 7:00 am.

27 year old Pierce Ford of Sheridan was taken to Sheridan Memorial Hospital for treatment and cited for DUI and failure to stop at a railroad crossing.

Initial damage estimates to railroad property are just over $10,000.
