Hail damages property in Spearfish

Posted:

Golf-ball sized hail, lightning, pouring rain, and funnel clouds blew through parts of KOTA territory this evening, causing major damage in some areas.

The Walmart on 1st Ave. in Spearfish had so much hail damage, managers closed the store. The hail crashed through the skylights, causing quite a bit of damage.

Even though the hail storm was pretty much over by 7 o'clock, pebble sized hail was on the ground.

The Signature Auto Owner, Brett Rang, says hail damaged tail lights and windows on some of his cars. "Incredible storm that blew in, just in and out unbelievably fast," said Rang.

Joyce Porter, a tourist from California, says the hail hitting her car while she was driving was incredibly noisy. "I think in Gillette we saw several trucks run off the road and police helping them out of their crashed trucks," said Porter.

No injuries were reported to KOTA as a result of the storm, just property damage.
