New statue on loan in Main Street Square

A new statue is drawing attention in downtown Rapid City, but it's not another president.

A life-size statue of a wild horse is on display at Main Street Square. It was erected this morning—just in time for the "Art and Wine Festival" this weekend.

It's made from scrap iron and includes things like small pitchforks and pan lids.

Local artist John Lopez says the piece is on loan. He was commissioned by a buyer in New Hampshire, and when he asked if it could first be showcased at the event, festival organizers jumped at the opportunity. It will be shipped to its owner after the weekend.

This is the second year that a Lopez sculpture has been featured at the festival.
