A Rapid City architectural firm investigates the costs of renovations to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
The Civic Center Board has hired TSP an architectural firm to investigate code compliance upgrades to the facility.
The upgrades are in addition to the 38 million dollars required to bring the Don Barnett Arena up to date with the Americans with Disability Act.
TSP is studying the civic center's electricity, plumbing, roof, and emergency evacuation systems.
When it's all said and done, the board will make a price comparison between the costs of an upgrade and a brand new arena.
General Manager, Brian Maliske says the study is crucial as are the upgrades in order to continue the success of the civic center.
"Over the last 36 years we have had our 30 million come through our facility if we expect to have those numbers in the future , we have to be competitive we have to stay within the law and we have to stay within the mandates of the people of Rapid City."
The study by TSP could take weeks.
It should be noted that the study does not address parking.
