Rollover accident slows traffic on I-90

Traffic on I-90 eastbound was slowed down to one lane late this afternoon.

A ready mix truck carrying a large of concrete went off the road and hit an overpass pillar at mile marker 71, 4 miles east of Box Elder.

The accident was caused when a rear tire blew out causing the weight to shift and the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The driver was taken to rapid city regional hospital with non life threatening injuries.

South Dakota Highway Patrol Sergeant Jeff Twite says the overpass did sustain some damage, "We have a bridge crew from Department of Transportation that's looking over the bridge. We won't know for sure what the damages to get the truck out of there and all the cement there cleared up."

Crews expect to have the accident scene and both lanes of traffic moving around 7pm.
