Pandora enters Rapid City radio market

An internet radio giant entering the local radio market is putting Rapid City in the national spotlight.

Pandora has announced its purchase of local FM station KXMZ, Hits 102.7.

Pandora claims that owning an on–air radio station should entitle the company to lower music royalty rates.

According to Business Week, Pandora pays particularly high royalty rates because it's required to pay an additional amount for each song listened to by online users.

The company has more than 200 million registered users subscribed to its service.
