Airport board members look to increase air travel to Rapid City

Two groups could partner up soon to promote travel to KOTA Territory.

The South Dakota Department of Tourism and Rapid City Regional Airport are proposing a partnership to promote more air travel to Rapid City.

Airport Administration Board Members said that Rapid City is a huge tourist destination but many travelers are coming from areas close by.

There is not enough marketing going on in big cities and they believe that this could bring more money to the city.

"You know I think the potential of growing the tourism market in these cities is phenomenal. If you think about a city like Houston, six million people live there and they are within 2 hours of our city because of air travel, that is great potential. I feel very strongly that this offer is really unprecedented opportunity for our state in terms of tourism,"said Board Member Cameron Humphres.

4 out of the top 10 major U.S. cities are within a 2 hour flight from Rapid City.
