A man facing several charges, including a charge for shooting another man to death in a Rapid City hotel parking lot back in January, will have separate trials.
Charles Birdshead, 30, is charged with felony manslaughter for the shooting death of Eustacio Maruffo, 33, at the South Dakota Rose Inn on January 7th. He also is alleged to have had a sexual relationship with a 15 year old.
On Monday, Judge Wally Eklund severed the charges. It means there will be one trial for the first degree manslaughter and commission of a felony with a firearm charges. There will be a separate trial for the charges of fourth degree rape and distributing methamphetamine to a minor.
Birdshead's first trial will begin on July 29th.
