Friends of Rapid City Parks put on a walk to remember, and for those not familiar with the flood of 1972, gain knowledge.
The walk started in Sioux Park and ended in Founders Park. Those participating could use their smart phones to activate markers along the trail.
The markers each have detailed information about certain areas where the flood had its biggest impacts.
Those participating think it was a great way to remember that tragic event so many years ago.
"I think it's really important we remember the flood and remember what happened here, and remember that this fabulous asset we have in our community was really paid for with the lives of many people and we need to cherish it," said walker, Eric Abrahamson.
"It's nice to remember what happened 41 years ago. I wish there were more people here but maybe it will gain attendance as the years go by,"said walker Keith Johnson.
This marked the second year of the walk and 41 years since the tragic flood.
