Attempted murder in Blackhawk

One man is dead and one woman is in the hospital after an attempted murder Thursday.

When the Meade County Sheriff's Department arrived at 4944 Rainer Court in Blackhawk Thursday night, they found Glenda Arnold, 43, shot in her driveway. According to a deputy, she told them Raymond Birdsail, 30, was still armed and in the house.

Neighbors didn't want to talk on camera, but they spoke off camera. One neighbor says Birdsail and Arnold were arguing earlier that evening. Other neighbors say police told them to stay inside and that a negotiator spent hours using a megaphone to tell Birdsail to come out of the house.

Chief Deputy Tim Wilts said when they finally entered the house, they found Birdsail dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

Wilts says the law is in place to try to help people with violence in the home, but people need to come forward. "They themselves have to recognize that there's issues and that there's things they can do to get help," said Wilts.

Arnold was taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital, where deputies say she is going to recover.
