Deadwood: City looks to add land

Deadwood is known as a small town, but in the next few weeks it could be getting a whole lot bigger.

Four landowners who own land north of Deadwood on Highway 89 have come together and petitioned the city to be annexed into the city limits.

The total amount of land that would be added is 709 acres. Monday the Deadwood City Commission unanimously accepted the petition.

Two of the properties have businesses on them.By being annexed into the city, the landowners would not have to continually renew their conditional use permits.

Mayor of Deadwood, Chuck Turbiville, thinks the added land will be good for the city.

"This is certainly beneficial to The City of Deadwood and here again I anticipate it will take place with no problems."Said Turbiville.

A final hearing to approve the annexation is set for June 17th.
