Driver of DAV van charged with two misdemeanors in fatal crash

The driver of a van carrying disabled veterans is charged with two misdemeanors following an accident on Interstate 90 that killed a Sturgis man.
 
 
Shawn Speirs, 33, of Rapid City will be issued citations for improper lane change and careless driving in the May 7th crash.
 
  
Kristian Sateran, 46, and six others were injured in a two-vehicle crash that shut down the westbound lanes of  Interstate 90. Sateran was one of two people thrown from a DAV van transporting people with disabilities when it rolled into the median at exit 55 after trying to change lanes and colliding with a car.
 
Both charges are class two misdemeanors and are punishable by up to a $500 fine and up to 30 days in jail.
